BENT went 6-2 this weekend up in Boston only losing to Brute Squad (twice). We started out Saturday with a 3-1 record, trouncing our first three opponents and then losing a windy game to Brute Squad. We came out Sunday morning with a win to finish pool play, and then began the bracket play. The wind continued blowing throughout Sunday's games. We defeated MissCONNduct first, and looked stronger and stronger as we moved forward in the backdoor bracket. We beat Godiva 14-12 to get to the backdoor finals, and then had an all-out battle against Brute Squad in the game to go. We played incredibly well in the first half, keeping the score tight all the way through to an 8-7 half. Brute pulled it out to take the bid to Nationals, but not without some epic upwind trading of points. Special thanks to Claire for captaining, Josh for coaching, Jamberg for the incredible bag of supplies, Holly for flying back from London, and everyone who helped to make the weekend fantastic! We played the best Ultimate we have all season, and it's clear that next season we will be a force to be reckoned with. Great season, BENT!
9/14/09 SECTIONALS CHAMPS! After some rain on Friday and Saturday, Keri (what a rockstar) Dorko managed to save NY Metro Women's Sectionals by helping to find us some fields in Connecticuit. After a dreary 5am start for most of us, we made it up to the fields where we enjoyed a day of playing in the beautiful sunshine. Afterwards we celebrated by eating soft serve at the local ice cream shop. Check back in a few days for pictures :)
9/3/09 Chesapeake was great!! We got in some more excellent games against many of last year's National's teams, and avoided lightening storms down in Maryland this past weekend. We had some close games, an incredible comeback and win against London's Iceni, and played lots of Ninja and lap tag. Check out the photo page for pics from the weekend.
8/25/09 We are getting excited for another great tournament coming up this weekend at Chesapeake. We are ecstatic to be joined by Josh Faust, our new amazing coach, and will be decked out in our sweet new jerseys. If there is any interest in purchasing replica gear, check us out online at :
8/19/2009 We have returned from ECC in Seattle. Over the course of three days of playing we faced off against several of last year's national's teams, and got to see some of our west coast competition. We had three wins over Traffic, Slackjaw and Underground, and some other close games as well throughout the weekend. We also ate lots of chocolate cake, celebrated two birthdays, watched fish swim up ladders, ate fish, learned about the Eiffel tower, about latin lovers, hung out with the troll in Fremont, swam in creeks, got sweet new jerseys thanks to FiveUltimate, picked up stranded teammates on the side of I5, and ate homemade pizza.
6/29/2009 Boston Invite was a huge success! More details and media to come soon, but overall it was a fantastic weekend. Saturday we were seeded 10th out of 10 in the Elite Bracket, but went on to take second in the pool after some outstanding games. We lost 12-15 to the 1 seed, Ozone, then beat Pop 15-8, beat Lady Godiva 15-10, and began our game against the Canadian team Stella going up 3-1 before lightening blasted out of the sky and forced us all to retire to the parking lot. We finished up the game for second place in the pool early Sunday morning and narrowly defeated Stella in a battle 13-11. After that we headed to the quarterfinals where we played a great game against Brute Squad, but ultimately lost 13-15. We then waited around for two hours until we could play our consolation game and got to play Godiva again, but couldn't quite the find the fire and ended up losing in our final game.
Overall it was an amazing weekend, as you can all soon see once our video and pictures get posted. Fantastic job everyone!!
6/14/09 Another amazing weekend of tryouts, ladies! We managed to escape the thunderstorms that weather.com were promising and ended having two great days of Ultimate. These were our last practices before the Boston Invite, but there will be several track workouts sent out to do in the next two weeks. We will be playing in the elite bracket up in Boston at the end of the month, so let's make sure to stay in great shape.
6/3/09 Recently Brute Squad invited us to attend a showcase game on the Friday of the Boston Invite in a stadium lit field to promote womens ultimate in the community. Woot!
**Correction on final cuts...We would like to finalize our team after the weekend of June 13th/14th with cuts on the 16th. However if we are on the fence about a decision we may take tryouts to Boston and make our final cut on Sunday the 28th of June.
5/31 Thank you everyone who came out this weekend! We had two great days of tryouts and it was great to see so many high level women out there playing hard. Our next tryouts will be in two weeks and will be our last two tryouts before our final cuts.
5/26/09 Tryouts will continue this weekend with practices both days up in Scarsdale, NY. We will send out an email with more detail in the next few days. In consideration of our out-of-towners, we are planning to run an late afternoon tryout on Saturday, and an early afternoon tryout on Sunday. We hope to see everyone out there!
5/13/09 This weekend we are taking a team up to the White Mountain Open to compete with some great east coast teams like Lady Godiva, Brute Squad, and Storm. Tryouts have started and will continue after Memorial Day. Check the calendar for updated dates, times, and locations.
5/1/09 Sunday tryout canceled due to rain. Track workouts for this week have been posted. If there is interest in doing them as a group, we can meet at the ball fields at Prospect Park on at 7 Monday evening for the first workout, and Thursday for the second.
4/29/09 UPDATE*** The tryout scheduled for May 2nd has been canceled. Due to a conflict with a WUDI hat tournament, we will only be having a Sunday tryout this weekend. Information about the hat tournament can be found at :
See you on Sunday!
4/28/09 We are beginning tryouts this weekend!! If you are interested in coming to tryouts but haven't let us know yet, please send us an email so we know who you are. We will also be sending a team or two to the White Mountain Open in Vermont on May 16th and 17th, so if you would like to come, shoot us an email. Looking forward to seeing you all out there :)
4/19/09 WE ARE CHAMPIONS!! We took a group down to the Beth Coltman Memorial Tournament this weekend in Delaware, and won the tournament :) We'll have more info soon, including some sort of recap, highlights, and pictures up on the results page. Great playing this weekend, ladies !
4/9/09 The scrimmage is on for this Saturday! As usual we will meet at the Parade Grounds, and try to secure whatever space we can get. We will hope to start at 11, but if you can come early to get secure a field that'd be great. Look for us where we've been playing, or potentially over where the other pick up game is played. It's tough to tell where we'll be able to get space as the weather gets nicer and we get more competition for fields. We will also have some more NY Ultimate t-shirts if you missed out last week.
3/19/09 THE SHIRTS ARE HERE!!!
After much excitement in our apartment over the last few days, as our space was temporarily turned into a workshop, the Bent Elves have finally finished the "beginning of the season fundraiser" shirts. We designed this logo to be a New York themed ultimate shirt, so if you would like one of these homemade (really....in our kitchen) designer t-shirts, we will have some available at our next scrimmage. The shirts will be sold for $12, and all of the proceeds will go to helping fund the team this season.
Date Change ** Our next scrimmage will now be on Saturday, March 28th, because there is a hat tournament happening the 29th at 11am in Central Park. See the Links page for the tournament website.
3/17/09 Happy St. Patrick's Day! Last night the first prints were made of our new design (above). The creative madness happened around midnight in Deirdre and Claire's apartment, where we experiemented with home silk screening, and came out with a great looking t-shirt. Profits from the sale of these will go directly to the team account, helping to secure good practice space for us this season, and help cut down player costs. We'll get some photos up soon.
3/14/09 Happy Pi Day! Today we had our first scrimmages at Prospect Park. We were blessed with perfect weather, and a great crew came out for a few hours of great ultimate. Over 30 women played for close to 3 hours, and the level of play was incredible, especially for being so early in the season. We are really excited about the potential of this team. If you didn't make it out today, our next scrimmage will be held on March 29th.
3/9/09 - The open scrimmages will begin this Saturday at Prospect Park. We would like to begin at 11am with a group warmup, so please arrive on time. Check back later in the week to find the exact location, though most likely we will be playing at the Parade Grounds at the south end of Prospect Park.
3/1/09 The first meeting of some core players happened today in Brooklyn. We got together with some bagels, some homemade banana bread, and included our Rochester player over Skype. Gotta love technology. We were able to solidify some tryouts dates and potential tournaments, and we will be sending out an email to people that have contacted us already about playing this season. If you are thinking about trying out this spring but haven't written to us yet, please contact us so we can include you on any emails we send out.
